From time-to-time you'll see inboxes also referred to as "servers". The terms are interchangeable.
How inboxes work
Each inbox has a unique domain name in the format INBOX_ID.mailosaur.net. Any email address that uses this domain automatically works — there is no need to create or configure individual email addresses. For example, if your inbox domain is abc123.mailosaur.net, you can send to test@abc123.mailosaur.net, signup@abc123.mailosaur.net, or any other address on the domain.
Messages sent to an inbox are only visible within that inbox. You cannot view messages across multiple inboxes at the same time.
You can also use a custom domain for inbound email instead of the default mailosaur.net domain. See External domains for details.
What is an inbox ID (or server ID)
Each inbox has a unique identifier. This is used when communicating with the Mailosaur API. You can find your inbox ID (a.k.a. server ID) by typing the name of the inbox into the search bar in the Mailosaur Dashboard.
What inboxes contain
An inbox groups the following together:
- Messages — Emails and SMS messages captured by the inbox
- Phone numbers — SMS phone numbers linked to the inbox
- Connection details — SMTP, POP3, and IMAP credentials for connecting to the inbox
- Forwarding rules — Rules that automatically forward emails matching given criteria
- Access settings — Controls for restricting who can access the inbox
Inbox limits
The number of inboxes available to your account is determined by your plan. If you need more inboxes, contact the Mailosaur sales team.
