Verifying Domain Ownership

Learn how to verify a domain you own, so that you can use it with your Mailosaur account for email and SMS testing.

Why verify a domain?

There are 3 main reasons for verifying ownership of a domain:

  1. To use a custom inbound domain for emails sent into Mailosaur (Professional and Enterprise plans only).
  2. To use the mailosaur.js library (e.g. with Ghost Inspector).
  3. To send, reply and forward email to external email addresses on that domain.

Verifying ownership of a domain

  1. Log into the Mailosaur Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Account Settings area.
  3. Select Domains.
  4. Click the Add Domain button and enter the domain name you want to verify (e.g. example.com)
  5. If you also want to be able to receive inbound email on this domain, select Allow email to be sent to this domain and answer any additional questions (only available to Professional and Enterpise plan customers).
  6. Once you’re ready, submit the form.
  7. You will be presented with on-screen instructions on how to verifying ownership of the domain. This will require technical knowledge. Share this information with an IT team member if this is not your thing.
  8. Once you have followed the on-screen instructions, it may take up to 30 minutes for the domain to be verified.
  9. Once a domain is verified, you’ll see a green checkmark next to it, meaning it is ready to use.

Allow email to be sent into Mailosaur via this domain

Note: Only available to Professional and Enterpise plan customers.

By default, Mailosaur gives you access to email addresses ending @{server_id}.mailosaur.net. You can, however, use your own domain instead (e.g. @yourdomain.com)

To do this, follow the instructions above and select Allow email to be sent to this domain when setting up or configuring a domain. You can link your domain to a single Mailosaur server, or use a wildcard pattern (replacing @{server_id}.mailosaur.net with @{server_id}.yourdomain.com).

You’ll be presented with instructions on how you need to confirm the DNS records of your domain. This will require technical knowledge. Share this information with an IT team member if this is not your thing.

It can take up to 24 hours for new DNS records to propagate, but once set up, any email sent to email addresses using that domain will appear in your Mailosaur inbox.
